Where: Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC
When: Saturday, January 19th, 3:30 PM
TV: ABC
Records: UNC 18-0, 3-0 ACC; MD 11-7, 1-2 ACC
Maryland is a team with great efficiency on defense and atrocious offensive production. The Terps actually have a better rated defense than UNC does according to Pomeroy which should at least test the UNC offense. Maryland does a great job hold opposing team’s shooting in check and an equally stellar job keeping their own FG percentage down. So as much as Maryland might bother UNC’s offense, their own ability to score points is in such disarray even the inconsistent nature of the Tar Heel defense will not do the Terps any favors.
In the end I am not expecting many surprises here since the game is in Chapel Hill. A quick glance at how poorly Maryland has played this season should spell this game out to be a UNC victory with very little trouble.

Offensive impact watch/countdown for Thompson, Ginyard, Stepheson officially starts today…for me anyway!

Oglsby I have seen play well in games that I have watched. I would think they might do better than expected, especially if Hansbrough/Thompson go soft in the paint. I would love to silece critics for a little while. Hopefully this will be our game. Vasquez hasn’t looked as good this year as last. Maybe DJ Strawberry had something to do with that, I don’t know.

I would love to have a well balanced offensive attack to where everyone is a big threat to score in the half court including Gin/Thomp/Steph. We all know everyone else is a threat.

Let me point out I am really annoyed when people look at PPG allowed for a team as though that says a team has a bad defense when no consideration is given to the pace a team plays.

excellent point THF–key for Championship calibre D (imo) is not so much ppg (Gerogetown) as it is being able to get stops and change the game flow at will.
your kids old enough to be excited?

My kids will be excited.
Vasquez is running his mouth to the UNC bench. I am amused that Lavin spins that as him being an “emotional leader” I call it being a punk.

Where are the Heels. What team is that on the floor. This has to be the worst half of ball I have seen by them. There is no intensity. We need to hit some outside shots to open up the inside. Deon has got to step up. Are they going to call any fouls on the inside or just touch fouls on the outside like the one against Stevenson. I starting to get pissed off.

Maybe its time to stop predicting blowouts.
