Common sense dictates that if a press conference is forthcoming it would be today. The prevailing wisdom is that a press conference means bad news(for UNC) and a simple press release means they are all staying. The issue here is there are three players all operating with the same level of indecisiveness on this issue so how does three potentially different types of news get handled? The fact the NFL is this weekend and UNC football player Kentwan Balmer is a possible 1st round pick, it would be nice to get this business out of the way so Balmer can enjoy his moment in the sun.
I think something breaks today. What that something is, I have no idea. I do know that from a fan perspective the worst case is all three declaring without an agent which simply extends this madness another six weeks. Of course Roy has said their information gathering is so good, “testing the waters” has never happened. I would venture to say since he arrived back at UNC there have not been three borderline 1st round picks before and those are they guys who need to work to see if they can improve.
At any rate, I will be watching the message boards and the local news wire for anything substantial.

I still maintain that it would be classy (and a bit funny) if they just did nothing…

I like the idea of a simple press release stating that all 3 are returning and that Danny Green continues to work on some new dance moves for the start of next year’s games.

Ty can’t “test the water.” He is either in or out. His ankle is still hurt and won’t be better until the end of the summer. Therefore, he cannot push it to the max during workouts for NBA teams. If he is happy with his projected draft status, he will be in. Otherwise, he will be out.
Wayne and Tyler could through test the waters and it might actually benefit them. There are situations where you can go to Orlando with no expectation of staying in the draft that year. You are really using the process to see what NBA skills you need to work on. Kevin Pittsnogle of WVU did this a couple of years ago.

wcb22,
Valid point. Lawson is not going to be able to show his skills in a predraft camp because he is not 100%.

THF-
Do you have any idea when some information might be linked (for those of us not on the “inside” part of the Inside Carolina blog)?
Many thanks!

[...] Tar Heel Fan should have any news should there be some. Have a great weekend! [...]

The problem is there is nothing confirmed yet only lots of speculation and rumor from a handful of posters who are considered to be reliable sources. That being said, on the free board last night a long time poster said:
You heard it first here. They are all coming back. No joke. No games. Straight from his mouth. Bad draft reviews for two(second round), the other loves his teammates, his girlfriend, chapel hill, and wants to go out in style with 12 awards.
Everyone can relax. We’re going to be okay and have a smooth transition regardless of what goes down next year.
Ha, you never know what you can pick up running into people on Franklin Street. Forgive me for not giving even more details, but that would compromise too much. But this is legit.
Take it for a grain of salt but the poster in question has been on IC for a long time.

This is my favorite rumor so far. Can you say 11 deep?

I LOVE this IC message board guy!!! Hope abounds.

I am surprised that there has been no news regarding the 3 all week. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Roy and his players are working into the weekend, but I hope not.

I went and read through the thread for the post THF mentions and it is worth noting that once you read through all of his posts in this particular thread the story gets a little harder to believe. I’m not saying it isn’t true, and I WANT it to be true, but it is a bit suspicious.

Well he goes from saying “they are returning” to “they might all test the process then return.” Given the poster’s history I do not think he would throw it out there unless he thought it was true.
Grain of salt until Roy or UNC tells you otherwise.

if they all come back can you imagine how much the freshmen will learn in practice? as long as we keep going to final fours, something good will happen!

If everyone returns, this will no doubt be the greatest Tarheel team of all time. Pray!

Hey Brooks, I do like Gary Williams.

Lawson and Ellington needed to watch Caron Butler play last night against Cleveland, that would put an abrupt halt to any thoughts that they’re ready to play in the NBA. The thought of Hansbrough going to any pre-draft camp to test the waters is ridiculous. He’s won every national player of the year award this year and has nothing more to prove. He’s a number 18, 19, 20 pick this year or next.

Agreed Chris. Right now these guys would get chewed up by the Jamisons, Caron Butlers, Chris Boshs’ of the league. They just need to get that “Warrior” attitude and aggressiveness that those nba caliber players have. Ellington is way too passive at this moment in time. But he made very nice strides this year in slashing to the hoop & not settling for a rediculous 3. He needs to become a Ray Allen type player.

To Josh Bowling. Alot of Mayrland fans up here want him out. I don’t care for him myself. I was born and raised UNC. Just moved to B-more for work. I heard lots of trash talk when we lost to the terps, but we all know who came out better in the long run! GO HEELS!!
