1st and 2nd Round Game Times

Tar Heel Blue has the first and second round game times for UNC’s bracket:

Thursday, March 15
7:20 p.m. — #8 Marquette vs. #9 Michigan State
30 minutes after — #1 North Carolina vs. #16 Eastern Kentucky

March 17
5:50 p.m. — winner of #2 Georgetown/#15 Belmont vs. winner of #7 Boston College/#10 Texas Tech
30 minutes after — winner of #1 North Carolina/#16 Eastern Kentucky vs. winner of #8 Marquette/#9 Michigan State

One minor complaint.  Why does UNC, as the #1 seed in the region, have to play at 10:00 PM EDT?  I know Duke had the same deal last season but quite frankly that makes little to no sense for the #1 seed to be forced into the late game.  The Saturday start time makes sense for the purpose of TV ratings.  If you are CBS, you want UNC on in prime time.

I think it has to do with the fact that the 1 v. 16 games are traditionally the least competetive, so they are unlikely to show more than a brief glimpse of the game. I remember the UConn/Albany game was a 10 PM start for just that reason. I don;t think CBS planned on televising as much of it as they did!

Yet another reason why it is a joy to root for the Heels!!

“The supposed Final Four, the top seeds are a real disparity there. Two of the schools, Florida and North Carolina, have really good graduation rates and Kansas and Ohio State don’t have such good graduation rates,” Lapchick said. “That’s certainly an issue.”

I am getting the March Madness Directv package to make sure that I see every minute of our game.

What channels on direct tv are they?

The East looks pretty tough. If I’m reading it right we could face Texas in the Sweet 16 and then possibly Georgetown in the Elite Eight?

  7. Tar Heel Fan says:

Which does not make any sense since we are supposedly the #2 seed overall.

  8. williamodouglas says:

Texas is terrible on the defensive end. The are the worst defensive team among the Pomoroy top 30 teams nationally. They have one impressive win all year, over A&M at home in double overtime. Durrant is great, but Texas is not.

  9. […] numbers for the Midwest and West.Yoni Cohen says Texas is for real. Eastern Kentucky? Tar Heel Fan notes that the Heels will be the late show. Adam Lucas explains […]

hey thf, u gonna post your bracket of picks?

  11. Tar Heel Fan says:

Yes, I will have my picks out by Thursday morning.

If we get out of the regional, watch out, because UNC will have really had to battle to get there .
