UNC at East Carolina

Records: UNC 1-0; ECU 0-1

For the first time in a long time I think we all have a good feeling about where we are heading on this wagon.  At the same time we still need to see more from this team.  This game is an excellent test and a good first road game for the younger players.  Among the list of concerns heading into this game, the running game rates fairly high simply because there were no definitive answers from last week.  Johnny White had a strong showing against JMU displaying all of the necessary tools to be an every down back.  Anthony Elzy had two TDs and may be the first choice for short yardage downs.  ECU was impressive defensively speaking in Blacksburg sacking VT QB Sean Glennon multiple times and limiting Brandon ore in the running game.  The question for UNC is whether the offensive line can keep the Pirate defensive front at bay more so than the Hokies did.  One would think not, but if they can and if the Heels can manage enough of a running game to keep the linebackers honest it might open the door for the Heels passing attack.  T.J. Yates showed a great deal of composure in his first start and if he can avoid pressure the receiving trio of Hakeem Nicks, Brandon Tate and Brooks Foster are exceptionally dangerous.  They could very well be where the offense happens for UNC but it all depends on how well the OL contained the ECU defensive front.  My gut feeling is it might be a mixed bag for the Heels and some of the things that went right last week is going to be problematic this week. As much as I detest the idea of losing to ECU, I think the Pirates do just enough on both sides of the ball to squeak out a win.
