Marcus Ginyard Does Not Think Highly Of Blacksburg

The Wolfpacker put together a list of questions they asked various players from around the ACC and then posted their answers.  There are some interesting takes including Marcus Ginyard saying Virginia Tech has the worst basketball facilities in the conference.

Who has the best facility?

I haven’t been to Virginia yet. Virginia Tech is definitely last. NC State maybe. They play in the RBC Center and that isn’t bad. Boston College has a nice gym and Clemson has a nice gym. It’s a toss-up. I’d have to say Boston College and I’m assuming Virginia because it is brand new.

Nice. This might explain why A.D. Vassallo of Virginia Tech thinks the 10 year old RBC Center is “brand new.”  Most folks said either UNC, NC State, Virginia or Maryland as having the best arenas in the ACC.  The latter three are the most recent additions with RBC being the oldest of that trio.  The Smith Center is 20 years old but at the time it was a premier on-campus basketball facility and still is in many ways.

Duke and NC State won the day for craziest fans with UNC thrown in there some.  FSU’s Toney Douglas appears to love all things Carolina citing North Carolina fans along with Duke as the craziest and UNC as having the best gym.  Douglas is also under the impression that Wayne Ellington is the best shooter in the conference.  Ellington’s 18 points in the ACC Quarterfinals against the Noles must have made a lasting impression.

Washington said Ellington, too. I know Wayne gets trashed on this site, but the guy is a great “shooter”. What he needs to become is a better shot “selector”. 3PT % will go way up when that happens.

“Trashed” is a little strong word don’t you think?

I have been hard on him and I will be making an effort not to be so negative about his game. And yes, it is often about shot selection with him not his stroke.

  3. C. Michael says:

Sorry, wasn’t implying that you trash him. Unfortunately, blog owners often end up “owning” the comments their site recieves.

Honestly, to me, the biggest thing Ellington needs to do this year is play better defense. IMO, that’s the biggest difference between him, and the 2005 version of McCants.

  4. Tar Heel Fan says:

    This is true.

I would really, really like to see Ellington guard Curry tonight and do a great job at it. Granted Curry is a great scorer but if he draw the assignment and handles it, his confidence on the defensive end will go up. Then again, Roy might not want to mess around and go ahead with Ginyard on Curry.

Trashing Ellington. Why not? Why should he be immune to criticism when he is shooting 38 percent. Oh, I know why, because his shot looks “pretty”. The only thing that matters to me is a scored field goal. I was very critical of Ellington last year, and deservedly so. This year he has made an attempt to attack the glass and force the defense. I will bet as a result his fg percentage has increased drastically. Thus, I have praised his play the past few games. It is just going to take a Donald Williams shooting performance for me to feel comfortable when we have had the games’ best big men in the country last year in Hansbrough and Wright.

  6. Wayne says:

    Ellington’s FG % was 43.3 last year, but only 37.1 for 3-pointers
