Want Some Tar Heel Basketball?

This 12 day break, while extremely beneficial to the players for various reasons, it quite interminable for the fan. Never fear though because YouTube is chock full of UNC basketball highlights such as the final five minutes of the 2005 UNC-Duke game in Chapel Hill. This is one of greatest comebacks in UNC history down nine with three minutes left before reeling off an 11-0 run. A very nice game to relive and for fun count the number of times J.J. Reddick chokes on his jumper when Duke really needed one.

Wow. I still get chills when Marvin gets that ball.

    One my faves:

Thanks. What an animal May was on the boards; hope he gets healthy again. That team had a level of desire that we haven’t seen this season–Felton was simply going to find a way to get the ball where it needed to be for them to win. I hope Lawson will delvelop some of that killer instinct.

This was still without McCants. I seem to recall it was about mid-season or later when McCants went out that May really stepped up and they gelled into national title form. Hopefully the same evolution will occur with this team. The next 5-6 games will be tuneups before heading to Clemson which will be a HUGE game.

    That was a great game.

I was sick a couple of weeks ago and went to the YouTube site and watched this a few times. I felt better afterwards, to say the least.

I loved the look on K’s face after Williams hit the shot. And Sean May had 24 rebounds against Shelden Williams who was supposedly the best defender in the ACC that season and the next. I have never figured out, after that game, how Sean May was not ACC POY over Reddick.

Any idea when UNC is traveling to Rutgers? As a lifetime New Yorker, I can tell you that it will be a heck of a sight any of the UNC players and staff who’ve never dealt with real snow before!

  8. Josh Bowling says:

What a game. As it is today, May and Williams do not go to the foul line for those free throws as the contact is now just part of the game when you’re battling inside, and Duke wins.

Last night I watched the 2004-2005 Championship Season DVD. What a team. McCants was an assassin!

  10. Josh Bowling says:

Also note that on the Reddick shot with about 7 seconds to go how Shawn May was held by Shelden on the arm to get rebound position, but to May’s benefit, it allowed him to stay under the goal where the rebound fell right into his hands. To me, that’s Justice served!

2006 would have been a lock with May, Felton, and McCants coming back. The lineup as I see it, C-May, Hansbrough, F-Williams, Noel, McCants, Ginyard, Green Guard-Felton, Frasor, Miller with G-yard, Green, McCants, and Noel able to play both guard and forward. Man, what a kick-but team. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t have been terrified of that team.

Same could have been said of 1997 had Stackhouse and Wallace been seniors with Jamison, Carter, Shammond Williams and McInnis/Cota at point.

Then again, the chemistry on that team would have been interesting.

Wow, that was my one and only UNC-Duke game (to date). That was my senior year. To start school during our infamous 8-20 campaign and then foirr years later to see us come back in that game in person and to be lucky enough to go to the nat’ championship game was truly incredible.

Watching that replay still brings a tear to my eye. I can still hear the screams when Marvin hit that shot. Thank you, Tar Heel Fan for the post.
