UNC To Play Michigan State….Again

The schedule for the ACC’s Annual Thrashing of the Big Ten was released today and UNC play Michigan State at Ford Field on December 3rd.  Anyone know where the 2009 Final Four is being played at? Anyone? How about Ford Field.  Perhaps playing a game there during the season will help the Heels should they end up back there next April.  It is too early to tell what kind of team Michigan State will have back and UNC is waiting on the Big Three to decide.  It should be noted that one player we know for sure we will see on the Spartan bench is freshman Delvon Roe who everyone thought was heading to Chapel Hill before declaring for MSU.

Another interesting note about the annual thrashing.  NC State has been left off the schedule which I find odd.[Edit: And apparently I am the only one since it slipped my mind NCSU was excluded because they did a stellar job losing their final eight games of the regular season to finish last in the ACC]

Hey, it’s the big 10/11 that is literally “odd”. State finished last. They applied themselves down the stretch and earned the “bye.”

Or were you just setting up the straight line with tongue in cheek?

  2. Tar Heel Fan says:

No, I forgot they used the standings from last season to figure the odd team out.

  3. 52BigGameJames says:

ROFL Steve–if we had avatars and sigs, that line would definitely be sig material!

  4. Wilson says:

Somewhere David Thompson is shaking his head.

  5. I don’t want to sound like a whiner, but how did we get to play two away games in consecutive years?
I would think that since they use the standings to determine the matchups that we should be playing Wisconsin. Don’t get me wrong, I have no love for Tom Izzo and I have no idea how many players Wisconsin will be losing, but I would think that would be a better matchup than Michigan State.

Andy: Not sure you are getting Roy’s strategy. Michigan St. normally plays its games on campus. This game will be played at Ford Field (the Lions football stadium), which was the side of this years Midwest Regional and next year’s Final Four. Of course, Roy is planning on getting back to the Final Four and he wants to give his team experience on that unique setup.

If you remember from watching the games this year, they are played on a court which is a 3-foot elevated platform. That elevation changes the sight lines for shooters, and takes some getting used to. I am sure that’s why Roy wanted to play that “road game.”

  7. C. Michael says:

Plus, this will give all the ABCer’s another opportunity to complain the UNC has another unfair advantage b/c they already played a game at the Final 4 site!! 😉 (I kid, I kid…)

  8. Will says:

If anyone wants to go to this game, they will probably sells 76,000 tickets just like the Final Four!

  9. Tar Heel Fan says:

Yes, the ABCers will find any reason to degrade a UNC title.

Fred Brown gave the game away….

Chris Webber gave the game away…

Roy did not win with his own players…

  10. Detroit Mark says:

I for one am happy to see the Heels playing just minutes from my home. I’ve already entered the lottery for Final Four tickets and hope to celebrate in person when the Heels win the title in Motown. It’s not easy being a Heel fan in the middle of Big Ten country. But we did win both the Big Ten (Wisconsin, MSU, and Illinois) and National Championship in 2005.

  11. Will says:

Mark: If you don’t get your tix through the lottery, remember to do TicketReserve.

  12. Josh Bowling says:

Yeah Detroit, let’s do it again. Maybe Ted Nugent could do our victory song!

  13. Will says:

I vote for “Great White Buffalo” in honor of Tyler.

  14. DeanForever says:

    Delvon Roe-

You had better not leave your A game behind. These Heels will play aggresive, and with the collective chips of “The Debacle” and “Stickergate” firmly perched on both shoulders. Punk.

  15. Josh Bowling says:

How could Delvon Roe come to a Duke/Carolina game and not choose UNC? He was at the game last year when UNC beat Duke and the whole Henderson thing went down. Maybe he thought too much blood was shed to become engaged in the whole UNC/Duke thing.

  16. 52BigGameJames says:

I know each year is different, but with the history of this series, and most especially the most recent showing of the ACC, a series with the Big East might prove much more beneficial for all…just sayin.

  17. Will says:

Too late; the Big East has a series going with the SEC now

  18. Wilson says:

    Hahaha, yea, cuz that’s entertaining…

  19. Santiago says:

Perhaps they could scrap all of the others for a Big XII/ C-USA Challenge. Nevermind.

BTW, do you know what C-USA stands for?
    Conference of Universities Scattered Aimlessly.

  20. Tar Heel Fan says:

The Big East should simply use the extra game and challenge itself since it has 16 teams.

  21. Wilson says:

    Haha, good one, THF.
