The two biggest disappointments in the ACC thus far are Georgia Tech and Maryland. Let’s start with the Terps who apparently have been immunized against consistency. Maryland beats Illinois at home but can’t handle Virginia Commonwealth? And spare me the “Well VCU beat Duke last season” meme, upset wins in the NCAA Tournament the previous season don’t mean anything now, especially with the same VCU team lost to Miami by six.
Georgia Tech continues to lose to all the wrong teams and while I know they lost to Vanderbilt last season but that should be of little comfort to Yellow Jacket fans considering Vandy’s 7-0 schedule looks like it was shipped straight from the Little Debbie plant. Tech has losses to UNC Greensboro, Winthrop and now Vandy. This is as good a time as any to dredge up the wisdom of one Andy Katz of ESPN who said the following when Javaris Critteton and Thaddeus Young declared for the draft: “OK, so on paper, the assumption is that Georgia Tech will take a hit with the early departures of Javaris Crittenton and Young. But that doesn’t seem to be the case in Atlanta.” Yeah, how is that working for you Andy?
Duke played about the same game with Davidson UNC did. Translation? Both teams are about even.
Wake Forest lost for the first time this season dropping a game to Charlotte and the played USC Upsate and won. Who the heck is USC Upstate?
BC also took their first loss of the season dropping a game in Boston to Providence. The Eagles will be tucked warm in their own beds now until ACC play begins.
Other notable wins included Clemson handling SCAR, Virginia Tech over UNCA not that anyone in Blacksburg cared, FSU knocked off Samford and Miami of all teams is 7-0 with a win over St. John’s which tells you more about the debacle that the Red Storm has become than it does about the Hurricanes.

State has kind of upset me a little. I had higher expectations of them going into the season. VT-GT are just as you mentioned. Duke has caught fire sooner than I thought. I still have a propensity towards Maryland being better than they are currently playing. They have high-energy forwards and a guard (Vazquez) that I think can enable them to beat enough teams to be on their way to post season activity. Nice to see Lawson back. I thought the officiating in that game was much better (for us) than the Ohio State game where Thompson and Hansbrough were allowed to be butchered (proper use of the word) in the paint.
I would like to keep a log of different officials for every game we play, just to know how each have a propensity to officiate. Most often it doesn’t really make a difference, but in some situations, it could definately be helpful.

The history of the University of South Carolina Upstate is a chronicle of remarkable development. When Spartanburg General Hospital announced it was phasing out its diploma program for registered nurses in 1967, a citizens’ committee requested that Spartanburg be included in the University of South Carolina system to avert a serious healthcare problem.
The Spartanburg Regional Campus, as it was first known, opened its doors in the fall of 1967 to 177 students on the first floor of the Spartanburg General Hospital nursing residence. Enrollment continued to increase, which resulted in the school becoming a four-year university in 1975. In 1994, the University began offering graduate degrees. Today’s thriving campus boasts 280 acres and an enrollment of 4,600 students.
The Salkehatchie Campus of the University of South Carolina serves the residents of Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Colleton, and Hampton Counties, as well as neighboring areas. The campus offers the first two to three years of academic work leading to a Bachelor’s degree. Advantages of the Salkehatchie campus include quality instruction at low tuition costs, a strong link to other campuses within the University of South Carolina System, and the individual attention that each student receives both in and out of the classroom. The Salkehatchie campus is composed of three academic divisions: the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Division of Professional Studies, and the Division of Science and Mathematics.

I wonder if they were Big 10 officials against OSU and therefore given to allowing more to go inside than ACC or SEC officials might?

USC-Upstate is the former USC-Salkahatchi…that’s about as close to the spelling your going to get from me without doing a Google spellcheck.
